I walked out to feed the hens this morning and the light on this little flower bed set it off beautifully. Meanwhile, in the House of Mutants, one of my cucumbers is taking on an alarming resemblance to a set of ram's testicles (not that I've ever made a great study of said testicles, you understand.) Me being me, the temptation is to save the seed and try to get more of them. On to more wholesome matters. Just out of interest, I sowed the seeds of an F1 Apache hot pepper. The fruit had been hung up to dry in the greenhouse over the winter and I didn't even know if the seeds would be viable. 37 (!!!) seedlings later I had my answer. I managed to give a few away but I was still overwhelmed with them until the vicar came round to ask if I had anything to donate to the church roof fund plant stall. Off she went, staggering down the street under the weight of two dozen pepper plants. I was left with five and I'm enjoying watching all the different "ingredients" of the F1 hybrid show themselves. The plants range from 18" to almost twice that and with all sorts of shapes and sizes of fruits. They're just staring to ripen; I'm bracing myself for a taste testing session - armed with a pint glass of iced water! EDIT: forgot to include the Passiflora Incarnata growing on the front of my house. I was missold this as Caerulea var Victoria and when it flowered I thought "That'll never survive the winter on that wall." But five years later, it's still romping away. :)
