a couple little tips

a couple little tips

This first one is a little late to help this year, but something to keep in mind. My boyfriend hates Valentine's Day and refuses to celebrate it. Then this year he came up with his own idea and way to celebrate. We now do "Half-Price Valentine's Day" where we both go out on February 15th and buy little gifts for each other from the now half-price clearance v-day racks. (And if you're willing to wait a few more days and have a smaller selection, the clearance racks will continue to drop their prices.) Not only are we saving money, but we've reclaimed a holiday that I wasn't a big fan of myself as our own. The other tip is simply that if you work in an office to keep an eye out for things your co-workers are wasting that you may be able to use. I'm not currently working and my boyfriend usually works from home, but his current job is in an office and he's noticed a couple things. One is that here in CA we can get a cash refund for bottles and cans, but his co-workers at an office he worked at before just threw them away, so he would take them out of the trash and turn them in himself. Also, at his current office they order chinese food every day for whoever wants it that day. And people haven't been eating their rice. He said he's seen them throw away like a dozen containers of rice at the end of the day. So he's been snagging some to eat with his lunch and he's going to try to grab a few containers to take home sometime soon so we can make fried rice or something with it. The thing with the rice especially amazes me because people even go so far as to request brown rice and then they don't touch it. So yeah, I hope these are helpful. :)
