A couple of questions from a novice:

1: What is the best thing to grow in full shade? We planted an evergreen in a really shady spot in our yard last year and it died. I'd love to plant vegetables, but I'd go for just about anything. 2: There's a sunken, bald spot about the size of a car tire underneath a really old tree in our backyard. We were talking about extending our garden so that it covers that space, but if the soil won't grow grass, is there really any point in trying to grow anything there? Is there anything that I can do to treat the soil so that I can grow stuff there? The roots from the tree probably extend into that part of the lawn too, so I'm not sure if it's a good idea to start digging around. Thanks for the help!
