I want to grow my own salsa this year. I've already got my tomatoes, peppers, and other goodies all picked out for this project but I'm stumbling across one barrier. Every single recipe I find for salsa includes Cilantro. I have an odd reaction to cilantro that I can't seem to find a reason for on the internet. When I eat it, it is quite painful. My tongue, the roof of my mouth, and even the inside of my cheeks start to burn if I get much more than a taste of it in my food. A little bit I can do, much more than that and I've got to stop eating and promptly drink some water.
Now it's not that the cilantro is very hot, I can eat plenty of other spicy foods and peppers, it's just painful.
As close as I could find was people who think cilantro tastes like soap, which is not at all what I'm experiencing. Does anyone else have this same reaction?
Oh, also, coriander (the cilantro seeds) doesn't pose a problem to me so I don't think its an allergic reaction.
Also, do you guys know of anything that I could use instead of cilantro in my salsa?
If I need to take this down (as it's not strictly gardening related) I will.
Apparently general consensus is that I'm allergic to cilantro. *shrug* Who knew? :-) Thank you for your prompt responses!
