A winter project

Last October I put these tulip bulbs in the refrigerator, I set them out just after new years. They grew slow but looked very promising! This is the first time I’ve forced.

After about 2 weeks the tallest plant produced a bud. Then I could see the flower forming but unfortunately so did my cat! (the one in my icon) He chewed on the plant, mangled it somewhat and I figured it was going to be history. Despite the chewing the flower still bloomed!

The other bulbs don’t seem to be shooting up and have flowers ready to bloom also. Why aren’t they growing tall like the first one? The room is cool, is that why? This pot sits near a south facing window but isn’t in direct sunlight.

These are going back in the refrigerator after the flowers and plants are done so I can bring them out in late summer or early fall.
