Actual Plant Related Photos!
No, I'm not posting about mushrooms! These are actual plants, from my back yard! I picked a tomato today, and one of my hardy ground orchids flowered. This is a tomato, of the Amish Paste variety. This tomato appeared back in January and sat there for well over a month, fully grown, but still green. Well, the temps spiked up into the mid 70s here and it decided to ripen. Yeah, it's got a little scabbing on it, sort of, but hey... it's a tomato, in February! I think this is Bletilla striata x formosana 'Yokohama.' I'm guessing it's a spring bloomer, but the weather here is just nuts! And a closeup! These like bright light and grow rapidly. They're hardy up to USDA zone 6 and do great just dropped into the ground. They reproduce quickly through divisions, and even from seed! (Unusual for an orchid.) I'm amazed that this little guy flowered considering how neglected it was.
