Advice and showing off a bit

Hey, here’s a few pictures of my apartment. My boyfriend and I moved in here in September and it’s by far the nicest place we’ve lived. We’re on the main floor of a two-storey house and we also have an unfinished basement and front and back yards. We love it here, and our landlord (who is awesome!!) lived here before we did so he did a ton of renos. Everything, minus the ancient pine floors, is new. He’s also responsible for all the paint colours, which is great because they’re all colours I love and that I probably would have done, just not as well! I do want to paint our kitchen though, it’s a beige colour which is okay, but a little bit drab for me.

This is our bedroom:

Another shot of it. We don’t have closets, but our landlord left us this great storage unit thing!

Our office, I’m pretty sure it’s the same colour yellow in the bedroom, office and little hallway but the lighting makes them all look different.

We keep my records in the office, there’s a bunch (and probably another 300 or so in the basement).

The living room. It’s a bit cluttered right now with my knitting stuff and my boyfriend’s music gear. Normally it’s a bit neater.

Still the living room. My bf’s parents were going to get rid of those great blue chairs, so I jumped at taking them.

Bathroom, I love the tiles in the shower.

We have a glass bowl sink. It feels pretty opulent.

Not trying to show off the toilet, I just love the floor tiles in the bathroom.

Alright, so here’s where we need a hand:

Our front door enters into the kitchen.

Here’s the colour up close.

This is pretty close to the colour we’re thinking of painting it, although ours is paler: http://www.millennialliving.com/files/2/baize-green-sw6429.jpg

I just want to paint the top part that colour and the bottom wood panels (wainscoting?) a crisp white colour. My boyfriend wants to either do the reverse of that or paint the whole thing that green colour. I’m not sure that either of those would look that great, but I’m not the best at visualizing things so I’m looking for some other opinions. Is that a good colour choice? I love bright, bold colours, but since that’s what all of our other rooms are I think a more mellow one would be good for the kitchen. We don’t get very much natural light in there. As you can see our front door has frosted glass and also it is set pretty far back from the house so there’s a lot of shade. The lighting we have is compact flourescents in the ceiling fan as well as a couple small spotlights over the sink. I love hanging out in the kitchen, so I’d like something that’s inviting.

Another thing I was wondering about is my boyfriend says he feels our living room is too empty. I agree with him that we definitely need some art work up, I just need to get a few prints I own framed, but he seems to think we need more furniture. I like it the way it is, but I’m thinking that maybe an area rug would be a good compromise. Would that look okay? Would it be a crime to cover up the hardwood floors?

Thanks!!
