All sorts of questions…

All sorts of questions…

Hey! I'm Tori, I am a tattoo apprentice/student in Missouri. I have two kids, Aidan and Steven, and a loverly old man, Matthew. First question: Our food stamps got cut by about a hundred bucks- no new income, or anything like that- Missouri did just pass a minimum wage increase, which went into effect on Jan. 1- are these connected, do you think? I've got a pretty tight handle on the 260 a month food budget, but wow, 160? That's going to take some adapting. We'll probably end up just budgeting another hundred, cash, too. I'm not sure 160 for three people works. If you have any tips, tricks, lemme know. I already buy the off brand, shop at Aldi's every once in a while, and pretty much home-make anything you can think of. (I even do pasta, every now and again from scratch. That's actually kind of fun.) I don't mind swapping tips, or offering advice, there, either. I know LOADS of healthy-semi easy, from scratch recipes for a number of things. I've seen the post about beans. I stink at beans, sorry. *laughs* I try. Oh and also- credit counseling- which are real and which are crap? My fiance racked up a pretty good debt when I was pregnant and on bedrest- not heinous, but not great- about 9,000, I think. We'd like to get in some program to start payin that off- I really think given what the HUD/FHA website says, doing that will improve our chances quite a bit, too. Secondly, FHA/HUD loans? What do you know about them? We own a serious fixer upper- (If you know of any active comms for this, I'd appreciate linkage) it's a little over a 100 years old and the roof is SHOT. Since I'm taking a job, soon, we thought we'd get an FHAHUDwhatever loan, sometime mid-year to fix it up. I know certain improvements are tax creditable under the energy act thing- but which ones? Does the roof count? We're getting the house insulated, the windows done, etc, so...just curious. Also, what small steps might we take to improve our chances? Lastly, I wanted to offer my advice/help to anyone out there who might have disabilities and want to go to college. I am a participant in our local vocational rehabilitation program, and I've jumped through all the hoops and am doing it. So, if you're in that position and don't think you can do it- you may be wrong. Just ask. :-)
