aloe vera

aloe vera

Hello everyone - I just got an aloe vera plant. I've never really been into gardening or plants before (probably comes from having a mother who kept a garden poorly and tried to get my sister and I interested in it). I got the aloe vera for the medicinal qualities, and for some reason I feel like this is an odd turning point in my relationship with plants. My reaction was kind of - wow, a living thing to take care of. How neat. I have to admit it's slightly weird to me to cut a piece of it off to get the aloe vera "juice". It won't end up killing the plant, will it? (Forgive me if I sound insanely concerned.) Any tips on caring for it? I've heard bright light is good, but also that direct sunlight is not good.
