AND IT FELL FROM THE SKY!
Last September I was standing under my neighbor’s huge pine tree and a gigantic air plant (tillandsia) fell at my feet. Scared me half to death, as it almost landed on top of me. It was a perfect, magnificent specimen; about two feet across, with some bark and part of the branch still attached to the root system. He said he was going to put it in the trash, so of course I happily carried it home. I tucked it up behind a piece of driftwood on my garden wall. About a month ago, it started putting up a spike. I took the tape measure out the other day, and that spike has grown to 30 inches long! And is still growing! I don’t know if it will ever flower, or if this type just grows a spike and never even does open and flower. Some don’t. It only has about two inches before it hits the screen. I have lots of different species of tillandsias that I bought at Tropiflora and most of them flower, but none have a presence of the one that literally fell into my lap for free! And here it is when I first put it up, with the pine tree it fell from in the background
