another collections question
Alright so in July of 07 I went to see my doctor at Johns Hopkins University and he ran a bunch of blood work. Since I was over 18 and not in college I was on my parents' insurance as an adult child with a disability and was totally covered...except that my certification lapsed and so did my coverage. My dad had been told when we talked to the insurance about the disability thing to begin with that they would either call or send us a letter when I needed to recertify, never heard from them, didn't really think about it until I got a bill from JHU for $650. He's been calling the insurance company but as he's no longer on the insurance either he's had a really hard time getting any help. The guy at the company that he used to go to for help doesn't work there anymore. I've been in touch with the hospital about the situation and thought they were being patient with me until today when I received a notice that the bill has been sent to collections. I'm on disability and I have medicare and medicaid but medicare only approved $13 of this bill and medicaid denied it completely. I don't really know what to do and don't want to do the wrong thing in a panic to just do something. It's a totally legitimate bill and if there's no way to get it paid by insurance I guess I can try to set up a payment plan wherein I pay $20 a month or something but I really have no extra money. Sorry this was so long, I really appreciate all your input!
