Another job post

I feel like I'm stuck in a bad job situation and could use some help/advise. I've only had three jobs in my life, all of which I found via word of mouth or the internet. I'm 22, and while I have a ton of college credits, I have no formal degree. I finally figured out something I'd like to do (dental hygiene) but a) the waitlist for the program is long at the only school in the area that offers it, and b) it's a hell of a program that you cannot take part-time. I have a lot of experience, especially in finance/payroll and in management, but of course without a degree those things usually mean squat. I currently have what I believe is a pretty damn good job. I make $15/hour and am salaried up to 27.5 hours/week. Anything over 27.5 hours in a week is OT. I usually only work 25 hours in a week though, if that (and still get paid for 27.5). I also am offered pretty decent benefits and I get $4,000 a year in tuition reimbursement. However, it's third shift. I've been doing the third shift schedule for 5 years now and it's really taking its toll on me. I'm tired all the time, I can't sleep, even with prescription medication from my doctor, I'm gaining weight, I'm depressed, I have no energy to exercise, I can't concentrate, I make careless mistakes, people at work are even starting to notice it. And on top of that, I'm a type 1 diabetic. I've been diabetic since I was 7 but no one ever told me it was bad to work third shift as a diabetic until AFTER I started my current job. My blood sugars aren't in control AT ALL. If I keep this up much longer I will end up dying at a very, VERY early age. Anyway, I need a different job. I need part-time (25 hours/week) first or second shift, and I need to TAKE HOME $300/week minimum in order to be able to still survive. My husband can't take on any more work - he's a high school special ed teacher and has his hands full as it is. I DO NOT need benefits - my husband has excellent health insurance and I will take out student loans if I have to in order to finish school. I don't care if the work is 5 hours 5 days a week, some weekends/holidays, or two 12 hour shifts on the weekends or whatever combination of days/hours it is, just as long as it's not third shift. I don't care if it's a desk job, clerical work, or a warehouse that's somewhat physically demanding. I just need to get out of where I am now and moreso the shift I'm working now. I've looked all over the internet and feel like I'm stuck. I find jobs that are interesting and what I'm looking for but they post no salary information. Is it rude to apply and simply ask what the salary is? I don't want to waste time (mine and the company's) by going in for an interview only to find out it pays not nearly enough. If I go through an employment agency, will they tell me the salaries of the jobs? How do I even start with an employment agency? Just call, or can I inquire online..? Any ideas are really greatly appreciated. And of course if you live in the Milwaukee, WI area and know of any jobs that fit these needs, I'd appreciate any leads. Thank you.
