I admit that I probably haven’t been the best with maintaining my compost bin in the backyard. I add stuff to it and try to poke around to move things around. Mostly it sits there left alone. Yesterday though I went to open the little hatch to collect readied compost and all these ant came swarming out!! They were caramel colored and there were tons of them.
What do I do? Is this normal? I don’t think so, but I don’t know. I don’t think I want to spray anything, right? Because that would be adding chemicals to my compost. Help!
I put a picture of the compost bin behind the cut

The little door thing to collect the compost is on the bottom.
I also was set to rotate the bins of my worm bin, but a lot of the worms were still in the lowest bin! I had posted about this a few months ago and you all were so helpful. I had added dampened newspaper in that bin incase there was an air gap between the levels. Maybe I just have stubborn worms who don’t want to move up to another level?! I added another layer of newspaper to see if that would help. I really want to collect the rich castings to add to my soil, but can’t because the worms are everywhere. Grrrr…
