Any way to get a deal on Northwest tickets?
I'm looking for flight tickets for the last week of July. I've
compared prices at orbitz.com, travelocity.com, cheaptickets.com,
priceline.com (the regular tickets option), expedia.com, and
nwa.com. Unfortunately, I'm flying into a tiny airport, which (as
far as I know) is *only* served by Northwest. I could save $9 on
my tickets if I travelled over a weekend instead of during the week,
but I can make more than that by being available to work over the
weekend. The distance prevents trains or busses from being a
practical option for such a short trip. My dates are slightly
flexible, but I'm afraid to use the Priceline 'name-your-price' feature because I have to take time off from two part-time jobs, so on the off chance that something woud fall through with that, I'd forfeit the
entire ticket cost, rather than just needing to pay a fee (albeit a high one) to change the dates. I know people have asked about flight tickets before, but I looked through the memories and already
used the suggestions that I could, but couldn't find any tickets for less than $333.
I understand that I may not have any other options, but before I spend that much money, I thought I'd just ask if any of you knew:
- any discounts I could look for?
- any other reputable places I should check on ticket prices?
- or any way I could ascertain that Northwest is the only airline serving the airport I'm flying into? (Or should I just assume I
would have already seen this info on the ticket agent websites?)
EDIT: Now it looks like ticket prices have dropped ca. $10 since yesterday. Is this normal? I had expected that they would only keep rising, since my travel dates are only a few weeks away. I was hurrying to buy them ASAP, but should I wait a few days and see if they drop more? I hope you'll excuse my ignorance--I don't fly often, so I don't know much about this sort of thing! Thanks :)
