Apparently it’s been a day for roses…

After this morning's excitement of discovering a rose thought dead was actually not, I figured this day couldn't get much better. That was before the UPS man arrived with the Jackson & Perkins tree rose I ordered about six weeks ago. (It's called Fragrant Cloud.) I wasn't overly pleased with the shipping time. The website says they ship according to the appropriate planting time in my area. That's the part I disagree with. Our last frost was a couple of weeks before Easter. Surely the rose could have been sent sooner. Otherwise... The tree rose arrived in splendid condition. One branch was broken, but otherwise great. It's a bare root rose and I've been disappointed by these in the past. Since it's J&P, though, I decided to take a chance. I'm pleased to say the tree rose had a very well-developed root system all ready to go. Sorry I don't have a pic; I was anxious to get it in the ground. There were lots of roots, though, most between six and eight inches long. The branches don't have leaves, but it does have several shoots showing where new growth should start pretty soon. I'll post some pics when it actually starts doing something.
