Apricot tree question

Apricot tree question

Hi All - A quick question about my mature apricot tree. I have owned this home (in San Diego, CA) for just shy of a year and enjoyed the tail end of a rich bounty of apricots last year, which had above-average rainfall. This year (a more normal year with regard to rainfall) all of the trees, etc. appear to be coming back slower than last, and at this point the apricot tree has begun to leaf out but has no discernable blooms yet. Last year at this time it was already full of fruit. Do you think that this is due to the rainfall difference and that it will eventually blossom and fruit, or are apricot crops subject to boom and bust years as I have heard? I am suspicious because I know normally fruit trees flower prior to leafing out, so I am concerned that at this point the opportunity to flower has passed. Any advice is appreciated - I am really missing those apricots! Thank you! Hillary
