Let me first start by saying that I know a car isn't a need, unfortuantely, my new husband has a job in a town an hour and 15 minutes from where I go to school, so we both have to commute. All of this was occurring before we got married, and would have been a dumb reason to not get married. Switching jobs/schools isn't an option because there are none of his job near my school, and my school is the only one with the degree I'm getting. Ok, background: I'm on my honeymoon, my brother has my car, and some asshat makes an illegal left turn in front of him, totalling my car. Everyone is fine, and my brother is not at fault at all. So the insurance company offers me a good offer, but the money goes directly to my loan company. I get what money is left over (around $600). Except I don't qualify for another car loan. My husband doesn't make enough, my mom (who cosigned before) and dad won't cosign (can't say I blame them) because they're both on student loans and my other brother's car loan. So I'm screwed. I explained all of this to the insurance company and the lein people, but they obviously won't change policy. ETA: I get why the policy is in place, I'm not trying to screw the loan company. I just wish they'd let me take the money, get a car equal to my old one, and put that title on the loan already in place, so I'd keep paying the same loan for the next 3.5 years. So what would you do? Are there places where you can get car loans with bad credit or little income? I have money for a downpayment (savings plus that $600), the insurance company is paying for tax, title, lisence, etc. I can make my monthly payments (I've been doing it for 18 months without a late payment). WTF am I supposed to do? Even more important, why am I screwed when this asshat can't drive? Thanks.
