Astilbe bulb life?
Today a distant friend of my fiancé gifted us with a box of Astlibe bulbs. All the box contained were several bare root bulbs in plastic baggies, the shipping receipt from Michigan Bulb Company dated 4-26-06 and a little sheet of paper titled "special information about your Astilbes" I discovered through Dave's garden, garden watchdog site that Michigan Bulb Company does not have the best reputation. But the bulbs seem fine and bug free. I cannot find much about this plant online that is not already stated on the information sheet. We are gardening newbies, and don't know much about bulbs in general. What we want to know is if the bulbs are still OK to plant, and when we should try to plant them? (most websites say spring, which it's too late for, and some say fall, but we don't know it that is too long to wait.) Pertinent information: Living in upstate NY, Zone 4 Currently early August Bulbs apparently shipped late April No discernable bugs, mold or mildew Bulbs still in original box and baggies, kept in cool dry place until given to us.
