Back tax filing issues
A paperwork error at my previous job caused me to owe a couple thousand dollars in just one year. They were not taking enough taxes out of my paycheck because they had me down as married when I had been divorced. I could not afford to pay it and I am no longer employed. What follows is completely my fault... I did not file and have not filed for a few years because I cannot afford to pay my taxes. This is keeping me from getting student aid money and all kinds of other issues. Also, I want to fix this problem before it gets much worse. I think at this point, I owe nearly $4,000 in back taxes. My question is: Is it worth it to go to an H&R block and have a professional look at this mess? I think it will cost me about $200. I really don't have a spare $200 lying around but if it means getting this done correctly and possibly saving me money then I think it might not be a bad idea to invest in this service. They might know something I do not know and be able to help me out. If in the end they save me more than $200, it is obviously worth it but I don't know what the odds are either way. What do you think?
