Balancing budget with ideals

Balancing budget with ideals

How do you guys balance between budgeting and ideals? For example, I try to eat organic food if I can, and I don't eat meat unless it's raised respectfully. I also don't like to shop at Wal-Mart because of their extensive human rights violations and such. But doing this on a budget is a problem. Organic veggies and free range meat is expensive, and Wal Mart is the cheapest place around. I've discovered meijer, which is wonderful, but I'm afraid if I reserach them I'll find out similar things about their policies. When it comes down to it, how do you balance the two? Would you buy sweatshop clothes if it saved you $20 on a pair of pants? Would you eat chicken that was kept in a cage its whole life because it's half the price of free range? Although I hate pork, I miss my grandpa's pig farm! I knew his animals were treated well, and had no qualms about eating them because I knew they were tortured less than store-bought meat. Thanks for your input! :-)
