I love balloon flowers. I’ve had them for three years now but haven’t actually done anything to help or hurt them so I don’t know what I’m doing right or wrong, but I’m interested in finding out.
The only thing I’ve done is deadhead the flowers to get rid of the spent flowers and encourage growth in the past. I hadn’t done any this year yet because I was just curious what would happen if I didn’t.
Well… apparently in a month, my flowers have shot up to a foot tall and fallen over. It’s very sad. I had no idea these flowers could be so big (and after a little internet research I read they can get up to three feet tall??) They hadn’t been more than 6 inches tall in the past!
Now… I won’t be living here forever, hopefully not more than another year, so I’m wondering what I need to do to gather seeds to take them to wherever I want to go in the future. How do I do that? Should I keep the deadhead seed pods as they are? Open them and harvest whatever’s inside? Leave them on the plant? I’m so unsure when it comes to this…
please help with any info you can give.
