Bankruptcy: giving up the ghost but will it keep me from a home to live in

Bankruptcy: giving up the ghost but will it keep me from a home to live in

So I got laid off. I have 30 bucks to my name and 43000 in debt that I pay about oh..1100 a month for. OBVIOUSLY I haven't paid this month so really, my options are slim here. Bankruptcy is pretty much it. My family will give me the money for the attorney fee, so that's something I don't have to worry much about. Here's my thing. Anyone here tried to rent a home/apartment after bankruptcy? How about applying for a job? I mean, what is the standard there? I hear some people say it has no effect, others say it's nearly the end of times oh god oh god we're all gonna die horrible. I've googled and I get mixed results so I figured I'd turn to the hive mind of poor_skills and call on experience. While I am honestly horribly ashamed that I've come to this point in my finances after never missing a payment or being late ever, I don't have any income and the California unemployment office is dragging their feet (going on a wait of two months so far..with copious prodding) and anything I get paid here will not come close to paying my bills when all I can get in Kansas after having to move is about 8-9 dollars an hour "high end". Maybe you guys can help me cut out a bit of worry. I can get jobs in Cali that will pay me in the 25-30 range it will just take more time than I can spare with paying these bills and maintaining any sort of credit so if my credit is going to get tanked anyway, I may as well try for a fresh start..My biggest crushing stress for five years has been these bills, if I knew that I was still going to be capable of renting an apartment and getting a job it'd pretty much ease all the stresses I have except housebreaking my dog! Edit: please note, I have tried many different options over the last two years to avoid filing and unfortunately it has come down to the truth that filing for bankruptcy is the only option that will allow me to have a place to live going forward. This is not a "should I file?" request, it is a request for insight from those who have or know others who have as to what they experienced on the other side of bankruptcy re: jobs and housing. :)
