Basil flowers

Basil flowers

Forgive me please if this sounds like the dumbest question ever, but are basil flowers poisonous in any way? I'm clipping the flower stems off my perennial basil to extend the amount of leaves and just tossing them into compost, but I'd like to use them in cooking. Any worries there? Do they go bitter or anything when cooked? I'd be using them the same way I use the leaves from the basil now. And yes, I do actually eat the flowers occassionally straight from the plant, but thought I'd ask.
