I don't know what kind of paint my apartment complex uses in the bathroom, but within a week, it had rusted to a bright orange (on the windowsill). A friend in the same complex told me hers did the same thing. And it looks pretty disgusting. Maintenance here leaves a lot to be desired (they were supposed to provide plastic covers for the windows in NOVEMBER... I'm still waiting), so I'm thinking about a little DIY home improvement. But, I don't know what to use. I think that part of the problem is that they just keep painting over the old stuff when a new tenant moves in... so the paint surface isn't even remotely smooth (big pieces have obviously chipped off and been painted over), and the rust just keeps coming through. Can I sand it down? Is there a rust-proof paint I can use? I know they sell rust-proof spray paint, but I'm pretty sure I'd just make a gigantic mess with that... I can handle a brush, though. Any suggestions would be appreciated... I'm trying to make my cheap-ish apartment look nice, and that bathroom window is just gross!
