Question:
Has anyone ever rented a U-Haul TRAILER and not died? (I’m not talking about U-Haul trucks, I’m talking about the TRAILERS that you tow with your own truck.)
Long story short, one of our poor skills when moving 700 miles away was to choose to tow a trailer instead of rent a truck. We save on rental costs, we save on gas, and we know we take good care of our truck and that it’s not likely to break down on us. We were planning on renting a trailer from either Budget, Penske, or Ryder, based on customer reviews and general experience.
HOWEVER. Apparently U-Haul is the only company that rents trailers?!?! Isn’t there any other company to rent a trailer from, or is U-Haul our only choice?
I know they’re a bad company. I know other companies have equipment that is far superior. I have read the horror stories. I have seen the pictures of the jack-knife accidents. And I’m moving 700 miles for the first time, driving 12-15 hours for the first time, and I am downright petrified, because I’m going to be following behind this trailer in my Cavalier. Do I have another option of a place to get a trailer from? Googling “moving trailers” and “rental trailers” only listed the aforementioned companies, and started listing u-packs like ABF.
EDIT: My fiance drives a 2001 Ford Ranger, it has a brand new class 2 hitch, and he is experienced with driving them – he has driven from Austin, TX to Rochester, NY in a U-Haul truck towing his old car with no problems. He also worked as a mover for years, so we know to pack the heavy stuff in the front of the trailer, and put more of our heavier stuff in the bed of the truck instead of the trailer to add weight to his truck and prevent swaying.
