Bed bugs paranoia.

Bed bugs paranoia.

So I'm considering this a poor skill because I am too poor to be able to afford an apartment with my own washer/dryer. I live in a privately owned complex of 8 apartments. We have one washer and one dryer. I used them for the first time tonight and was not pleased. The dryer barely heated up and after an hour my towels were still wet. At $2.50 a load, I'm a little bit PO'd. I'm also ridiculously terrified of bugs. Specifically bed bugs and roaches. I've been able to find plenty to read how to get rid of them but what about preventing them? Say I were to run the washer and dryer first before using them on hot/high. Would that eliminate any lingering bugs that might be in the appliances? I dont want to have to wash/dry all of my things on hot/high because it ruins them and a lot of my clothing is cold wash only. How hot does the dryer need to get? I'm considering going to the laundromat and just running a empty load first before washing my clothes. Yes, I am that paranoid.
