Bird Lovers Beware…

Bird Lovers Beware…

Crows have become a protected species in North America since they prey upon the eggs and chicks of blackbirds which cause lots of damage to our grain crops. Thanks to this protection, crow numbers are on the increase. Unfortunately crows also prey upon the eggs and chicks of our songbirds--bad news for those of us who enjoy hearing songbirds and like having them around to eat harmful insects in our gardens. There is a way to protect songbirds from crows: Put bird houses that cannot be gnawed or pecked into in your yard or garden. Make sure that the entrances to the birdhouses are just big enough for songbirds to get into but not big enough that a crow can poke its head in.
