I hope this is appropriate for poor_skills..
So, it’s time for me to get a new phone. I’m looking at Blackberries. My boyfriend recently purchased a similar phone phone AT&T with wifi and has no data plan. I would really like to do the same thing, except I have Verizon. Data plans are expensive. I can get internet on campus and that’s basically what I want to use.
I’ve HEARD of people getting a Blackberry/Wifi phone from Verizon and not having a data plan, but it’s mostly hearsay so I don’t really know what the deal is. I know that if you talk to them in the store, they pretty much insist you HAVE to get the data plan. My boyfriend went through with this at AT&T too – the salespeople wouldn’t stop insisting he had to add on the data plan until finally he convinced him he already knew he didn’t have to. He uses campus Wifi on his phone to access the internet now. So I’m sorry if I don’t entirely trust what the salespeople say on this.
So.. does anyone know for sure? Can I get a Wifi enabled phone on Verizon, browse the internet on the campus network and not have to pay the $40 extra per month or whatever for their data plan? What if I buy my phone on eBay? A friend of mine seems to think that they’d find out and add on the data plan anyway. Or does Verizon just suck and there is no possible way?
