Bloom time questions

Bloom time questions

I am a new homeowner (zone 4a) who has planted my first garden this year. It has been a great experience! We are learning the nuances of our soil, noting the amount of sun we get during the day, and making plans for next year as we would like try to integrate more native plants.

Bloom time questions
Clematis in late June

I am working with some plants that the previous owners left. I have the tag from one: Aquilegia hybrida (Columbine) ‘Origami Blue & White.’ They are smaller plants (14-16′) and have been blooming and reflowering since June. Now there are much fewer flowers; is it done for the season? We have been experiencing some very high temperatures–90+ for days in a row. I haven’t cut back on the plant as it seemed to be taking care of itself.

Also, we have two very nice purple Clematis plants that have vined around our front porch. I have read that bloom time is typically June-July. When we moved in September, I seem to remember there were still flowers on the vines. Do some Clematis rebloom later?

Also, any favourites for late (August-September) blooming perennials or annuals?
