Blossom rot, and nobs on the Basil

Blossom rot, and nobs on the Basil

i noticed today that we have blossom end rot on some of our tomatoes. i found some information about it on-line, and we're going to check the soil PH and see if we can stop the problem soon. i was just wondering though, can i just go ahead and pinch off the affected tomatoes, so the plant can use that energy for the healthy ones, or should i just leave the rotten ones on the plant until they drop off? Also, we have an Aero-Garden, and we love it. We've has great results so far, but i noticed recently that the two basil plants have tiny bumps growing up the plant stalks, starting from the root end. They look like little pearls, or tiny nobs, marching straight up the stalk in a perfect, straight line, to about halfway up on both plants. Is this something i need to worry about? Does it effect the taste and safety of the herbs? Thank you! :)
