Last year I killed the zoysia on my front lawn because it was ugly and annoying to mow (big hill, impossible with electric lawnmower.) I built a retaining wall and planted about a hundred bulbs in the fall, but I know I'm going to need to fill in bare spots. The bulbs may not even do so well since the area is shady most of the day, but they were on clearance so it was worth trying. What would you plant if you had a big naked area to work with? I'm in zone 6 and the space is about 300sf. I'm thinking a cutting flower garden, and I love unusual plants. I'm just looking for some fresh ideas after seeing the same suggestions over and over in aimless web surfing. Bonus if you can suggest some good plants for a slope that tends to get some gutter overflow in a hard rain.
