Brand new to gardening; wanting to start a container garden…

Hey, everyone. I'm new to gardening and hope my n00bishness doesn't become too annoying. :) For a few months now, I've been thinking about starting an organic container garden. I want to grow tomatoes, carrots, lettuce, potatoes, strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, and watermelon (although I don't know if it's possible to grow that in a container or not). I live in the Kansas City metro area, Zone 5b. I've finally started to study up on how to pull this off, but I'm starting to think that I've waited too long to plant anything from seed. :( I guess I can still buy the plants already half-grown and transplant them to other containers, right? I am SO overwhelmed... I've been googling this for hours and I think my brain cracked a bit. I guess I need some help figuring out what I need to start out with and then go from there. I have nothing right now except for a Topsy Turvy tomato planter that I bought for $10 a few days ago. I also need to know how big of containers I need to get for each plant and if any of these plants can grow well indoors. It's only my husband and I that we'd be feeding, although extra food to share with others would certainly be welcome. Thanks for all your help!
