Bread woes…

Bread woes…

So, I tried to bake my first loaf of bread and it has been disastrous. I used this recipe. I thought a batter bread might be an easier first bread to make than a kneaded bread. And, I had most of the ingredients already; I only had to buy yeast and eggs. But, my bread refuses to rise! It started in a warm kitchen (I was baking cookies for my church) and then, on the advice of my boyfriend, I cooled the oven down and set the bread in there. It has risen some, but it's been nearly 3 hours since I began this process. Have I failed? What did I do wrong? Should I continue to let it rise in the oven until it reaches the pan lip and then bake it, or is it a lost cause? I tested it and it was very light, but it still isn't rising very much. I was really looking forward to homemade bread.
