Budget patriotism on a shoestring…uh, handkerchief!
I was too broke around the turn of the year to buy an American flag but I really wanted to fly one for MLK and Inaguration Day. Fortunately I'd bought a Hav-A-Hank bandana/handkerchief with a flag print on it. They're cotton, made in the U.S., and even though they're not the official twice-as-long-as-wide size of a real U.S. flag, they look just like a flag, only a square one. And they're only two-dollars-and-change. Most days, I take it out in the morning and hang it on my back-porch clothesline, then unpin it and take it in as soon as I get home at night. I even used it at a recent science fiction convention, pinning it to the back shoulders of my t-shirt...instant superhero cape! (And too short to get tangled in an escalator or elevator doors!)
