Buds, but no flowers…

Buds, but no flowers…

At least that’s true on my rose bushes. My hollyhocks have flowers, but they’re UGLY, and I’m having trouble with my hibiscus, as well. What’s the cause? Japanese beetles! They’re eating the blooms before they open up. For my roses, which have very small flowers, there’s nothing left to open. For the bigger flowers, they open, but they’re holey. This is especially frustrating when it comes to my hibiscus because last year, it had the most AMAZING flowers, and this year, I saw that it had tons of buds, so I was really looking forward to those flowers. The past two nights, I’ve gone out with a bucket of soapy water and shaken as many bugs off the plants as possible. I’m still really irritated over this whole thing. Stupid invasive species!
