Bug bite relief on the cheap
The mozzies are out early here, so I thought I'd make a post gathering all the cheap and around-the-house remedies I could find for bug bites. Granted the very best thing is prevention, but sometimes the lil buggers catch you by surprise ;-) Things that have worked for others, but not for me: commercial creams (spendy too, since I always manage to lose the tube in between massive bite sessions because I move a lot) toothpaste, must be the paste kind, the gel doesn't work according to the people who get relief this way saliva salt baking soda oatmeal baths (just a cup of oats in with your bathwater, be careful, it makes the tub slippery, didn't help my bites, but my skin loved it!) bathing with hot, hot water ASAP scotch tape Lavender EO vanilla mashing a banana on the bite (although eating them is supposed to attract the darn things, go figure) aloe vinegar ammonia The only thing that has worked so far out of all the crazy things I've tried has been (drumroll please) deodorant! My roomie just suggested yogurt too, but I haven't tried that yet. I swell up everytime I get bitten. Currently, I only have 9 bites all on my calves and knees, but they are half dollar-sized even though I don't scratch them and they get big puffy white centers. It's a bit disturbing, they almost like those classic tick with Lyme-disease bites although I know for certain they are skeeter bites.
