Building Credit on a Budget
Hello everyone, I'm about to graduate college, and will be getting married soon. I have a few questions for you guys. Neither of us has a lot of credit. I paid cash for my car (after much saving), and my FH's car is not in his name. I have no credit cards, and only $2500 in student loans - which I don't pay on for another year. I have, essentially, no credit. FH has one small credit card, and a Best Buy card - (total debt under 1k). We are, of course, poor. We'd like to buy a house in a few years, and already have about 6k in the bank for a down payment. We pinch pennies and save, but I fear that this won't be enough to qualify us for a mortage. Will we ever be able to buy a house with such limited credit? What can we do to help our credit standing? I really don't want to get a credit card, but I've had a few friends suggest it. We are renting, and it feels like a waste of money (plus, our monthly rent is more than my parent's montly mortage). Thanks for any help!
