Bulb planting in zone 8a?
I live in the PNW (pacific northwest). I want to plant some tulips and crocuses in our side yard, and have been reading a little conflicting advice online. There are huge tulip fields a little north of me, and most of what I've read said in my area I don't need to prechill my bulbs and wait until later in the winter to plant. I'm hoping to be able to plant them this weekend. However, a gardener friend of mine insists that the bulbs need to be refrigerated, and then dug up come spring after they bloom for the best results. Which is true? I've planted tulips in pots on the deck for the past few years, and have had success just leaving them in the pots underneath the deck when they aren't blooming. Enlighten me fellow gardeners! Thank you in advance.
