So, in my naivety, I post-dated some checks for my shiny-new-husband's mortgage to the mortgage company and they cashed them the *moment* they got them regardless of the postdating. This was painful, but fortunately we had enough to cover it. Just not enough for food. Apparently it is legal for someone with a post-dated check to cash it the moment they get it, regardless of the post-dating. Just a warning, to make sure none of the rest of you get burnt.
