Caladiums and grasses

Caladiums and grasses

Does a plant ever make you feel guilty for thinking bad things about it? I bought some caladium bulbs in April and planted them too early. I had no concept of the fact that soil temperature was as important as air temperature and they rotted. So I went out in mid-May and bought some more. Planted those, waited for weeks after the label said they should pop and gave up on those too. In my mind I was cussing out Lowe's for selling me rotten bulbs.

Not wanting to have huge gaps in between plants I went out and bought some ornamental grasses and planted them in the same spots as the calidiums. A few weeks later I also paid 6 bucks for a full grown caladium, not wanting to be denied. LOL Well guess what, last week I went out and had a big surprise. Guess what popped up? You guessed it! Lookie! And there's a little shoot growing up in the middle of the grass too.

And then yesterday I went out and found a red caladium growing next to the fox red sedge that I'd just about given up on too. The sedge lost all of it's beautiful red color and I cut it back thinking it was a goner but it's got curly shoots which means it's growing. Hopefully I can figure out how to get it's color back. But for now I'm happy to have a nice red caladium. Woo hoo. Looks like I have a bunch of weeding to do. Trying to wait until after it rains so it will be easier. :)
