Carolina gardeners – a question (and a tip and a resource.)

I'm in the Charlotte metro area and haven't started pumpkins yet - do you think it's too late? It will allegedly be 105 days til first frost but we rarely have a killing frost until a week after that. I was just hoping someone had some experience with this situation. I'm starting my first fall garden this year so I thought I'd pass on this handy chart. I'm thinking peas, garlic, onions, leeks, beets, carrots, lettuce, spinach, kale & broccoli. Any other suggestions? http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/hil/hil-8001.html And for anyone in the area who feels like driving up to Mooresville, Brawley Co. has a plant sale right now and has some nice quart perennials for $2.68 each. I picked up a couple things this morning.
