Charge Off Help
Hey, I should start this off by explaining my situation and how I got here. About two and half years ago I signed onto a house for my Uncle A and Aunt A. I was only 19 years old and very naive. I did it at the urging of my other Uncle (Uncle B, who is the mastermind in all of this). At the time, I was riding high and had a very good paying office job, so even if Aunt and Uncle A were unable to pay the mortgage I would be able to cover it. Unfortunately in February of last year I got laid off and was struggling to pay all of my bills with only a part time serving job. It was all I could find at the time. Even worse the month after that Aunt A left, went back to the Philippines and took all of their kids, leaving Uncle A to unable to pay the mortgage with only one income. I didn't find out he had stopped paying the mortgages (1st and a HELOC) until June. Immediately, I called both companies and explained my situation and said that if anything improved and if I could start paying again I would. But it didn't improve. I got laid off from my waitress job and was only able to find minimum wage work as a barista. I'm now almost 4 months pregnant and living with my fiance. He is understandably hesitant to marry me because of all my credit woes. We really need his income and I'm afraid that they'll start trying to collect based off of his income. And now I'm trying to do a short sale on the house. But am finding it increasingly hard to work with the lenders. I recently was in contact with the HELOC company and they informed my account is now considered a charge off. Now that's not making anything easier. I'm constantly leaving messages on my account managers machine and they never get returned. I just feel like I'm helpless. The story is basically same for the first mortgage. Has anyone else here has experience with this, what did you do and how did you deal with it? If I marry my fiance will he be responsible for the mortgages? Should he take my name off of all our joint accounts? TIA, you guys. Google isn't helping and no one else can really give me a straight answer.
