Charlie’s Rose And A Lemon Verbena Question
Earlier this year I bought this particular scented hybrid because of its name - I have a wonderful friend with an autistic son named Charlie and so when I found this I simply had to have it because I thought of them immediately! I wasn't too certain how it was going to look; I just knew that it was a scented hybrid. Today we've been able to capture its first bloom - and I have to say that it smells like Turkish Delight! And now the Lemon Verbena question; you can see one of my Verbena shrubs right by Charlie there, and all of the four I planted looked like dried up twigs with leaves on initially but are - as you can plainly see - beginning to look like proper shrubs. They're all getting thicker growth and I'm just waiting for them to start getting tall as well as wide. I know they won't flower this year, but I'm wondering if I should prune them back in the autumn when they're this small, or leave them alone? I'm thinking to leave them alone but would like to hear from someone who has experience with Lemon Verbena please! I know how to deal with adult Verbena because my gran had one and taught me, but I've never dealt with young cuttings before and don't want to hurt them. Thanks in advance! (I'm in England by the way, in case that makes a difference to Verbena care).
