Christmas Rose

Christmas Rose

Quite a number of you have known me a while, and so you know that I got myself a Crimson Glory Rose, a Honeysuckle and Lemon Verbena because my Nan always did love all of those plants. My beloved Nan passed away on 27th September, aged 93; she gave me my love for gardening and I'm going to keep at it for her. I lived with her rather than my mother for quite some years, and one day when I was 11 she came running into the kitchen all excited, grabbed my hand and took me out to see what she was so happy about. A Christmas Rose had seeded itself by her compost heap. Every year after that we'd go and look for it and monitor its growth. Such a pretty plant. Well since my Nan passed I've been searching for a Christmas Rose in her memory. It's my birthday on Monday, and yesterday my fiance accepted a parcel from the postman, which was intended as a birthday gift but had to be given to me straight away so that we knew it wouldn't die. Yes, it was a Christmas Rose. I cried when I thanked him, and then we planted it in the garden. It's rather limp and a bit pale from being boxed up for the journey, but it should be fine in a week or so and has loads of buds - so expect pics soon!
