Anyone else invaded this year by 17-yr Cicadas? So far, they’re bloody everywhere in my backyard and not the front, have stayed away from my new veggie patch and are everywhere on the spring-flower patch, that isn’t suffering since it’s past bloom.
I’m in the minority because i think they’re cute and sad. Poor things can’t see, have a high chance of being deformed or injured as they emerge from their “shell”, and just come out to mate. Awwww. The heavy rain we’re having is more of a threat in my view.
Reposting my accounts…
This one is scaling the garage.
This one is happy in the grass.
The discarded shells.. exoskeletons, what have you..
Quite a lot of discards, i know..
They’re frolicing in my inherited flower garden, and i don’t mind much because the flowers have already bloomed- as long as they stay away from the veggies!
This poor chap didn’t shed his exo, and i don’t know if he can.. the Darwinism in this process is amazing- how many have disfigured wings or damaged and can’t emerge properly.. this guy might be saving strength and out now, tho’.
We’re such Buddhists- this little guy was struggling and flailing on his back and we kept turning him over. Sad reality is that he was probably out of balance and would die sooner than the rest.
And this is how they’re spending their well-deserved summer vacation. We’re not alone in the craving!
