cleaning stinky wool?

I am a scarf fiend (mostly gifts and thrifts) and am getting ready to pack up all of my scarves for the summer. I've been washing the acrylic ones with my laundry and hanging them to dry as needed all season, but how do I wash and especially deodorize (believe me, they need it) the wool ones without damaging them? From a google search I've pretty much got the gist that you wash them very gently in dish detergent or other mild soap and lukewarm water, rinse until the water is clear, press excess water out without wringing, and then lay them flat to dry. Some sites said to do a 50% vinegar solution rinse to deodorize, but they're all those "1 Million Things to Do With Vinegar" lists, and I know some of those tips are dangerous or damaging, so I wanted to ask those with more experience. So a) will these methods get my scarves clean and nice-smelling without damaging them and b) if not, what does work?
