Clematis in Zone 8?
I know most of you grow clematis vines, I bought a pack of 5 Warsaw Nike Clematis bulbs, and I'm really excited about them. I planted a couple of them where i *really* need a flowering vine (frames out my patio), last year I had a beautiful morning glory in it's spot, but the dogs dug it up after it had dried up. I put a cage around it so they won't bother it - it gets morning sun, until about mid-afternoon. My question? I've never owned any clematis before, and getting first had knowledge is always better than what some book says. Do they do well in Zone 8? Everything I read says they're 4-9, which is fine for the winter.. but will they handle our heat? Should I plant the others in full sun/shade? A hardy, floriferous cultivar with a moderate growth rate. Polish variety. Rich royal purple flowers with gold stamens are profusely borne from June to September. Excellent for growing over fences, walls, trellises and poles. It can clamber over natural supports e.g. small trees or deciduous or coniferous shrubs. Particularly useful for cultivation in large containers on terraces and balconies. thanks :D
