Crappy Carpet

Crappy Carpet

I just moved into a new place over the weekend. It's a nice apartment, except for one thing, which is really bugging me... when the property manager showed me the apartments, the 2 she showed both had really nice carpet. In fact, she told me that the reason they didn't allow rabbits was because they'd had to replace the carpet after one peed everywhere, and the carpet was expensive. (Some of you might remember my post a few months ago about negotiating to get my rabbit into the apartment in the first place... it worked, but she passed away about a month before I moved.) :( Anyway, I moved in on Friday, and my carpet is AWFUL. There are big, dark brown stains literally EVERYWHERE in the living room and bedroom. Covering them with area rugs is not an option, because I'm not exaggerating when I say that they are EVERYWHERE... and I can't really afford to buy a million rugs, either. I brought the manager over and showed her how bad it was. (Because she initially told me, "Oh, I did see one stain near the door..." Um, no, try the whole apartment!) So, she knows about it. I told her I was kind of upset about it, since it seemed like a "bait-and-switch" from the ones she showed me (and frankly, the rent isn't cheap). She offered to waive the pet fee for my cat as "compensation," so that makes my rent $20 less per month, which is cool. That being said, I have 2 questions: 1) Having already spoken with the manager, do I need to worry about getting blamed for the stains when I move out? We don't have anything in writing (I didn't get any sort of damage report to fill out), but she did make the deal on the pet rent, which shows acknowledgement that she knows about the problem, right? I'm planning on staying here for a good while, so I'm a little nervous about what might happen if she leaves and another property manager comes in or something. Then again, my dad did take dated photos of the carpet while he was here, and both of my parents were witnesses... I just don't want to lose my deposit down the road. 2) Just because I'm irrationally bothered by this: Is there anything safe/inexpensive that I can try to remove the stains? I don't know what they are, but I do know that the carpet was already steam cleaned, so I'm guessing they won't come out... figured I'd ask, though, as sometimes you guys surprise me! Thanks for any advice. :)
