credit card switch-a-roo
I just logged into my Providian MasterCard account online, to check the minimum payment since I need to borrow from my sister to deal with it this month, and I found to my dismay that they've moved the due date back from the 1st of the month to 30/08! The way Providian's online payments work, the earliest I can get my payment in now is 1/9, which of course is the date I planned to pay, anyhow. My question is: will it do me any good to call Providian and ask them to waive late fees, or are they playing with my due date to get late fees from me? I've only had the card for seven months, so I may not have much leverage, but I have faithfully paid on time for the past six. Edit! Thanks, everyone! I called WaMu (the bank behind Providian) and explained the situation before putting through my payment. The man told me to eat the expense of the Express Payment because it was lower than the late fee, and if the late fee still showed on my next statement, I should be able to get it waived. Hopefully it works out that easily, because I've seen WaMu horror stories on here.
