credit monitoring

credit monitoring

i hope you don't think this is off topic, if you do please suggest a better community. i couldn't find one that was active. my wife and i are living on a tight budget because we have bad credit and bad debt that we're trying to pay down. our credit rating is pretty bad and i was thinking about enrolling in one of those credit monitoring services but i have some concerns and i wonder if anyone in this community has any experience with such services. i read through consumer reports that it's not worth what you pay. i suppose for triple advantage which is 14 bucks a month, or thereabouts, it would be. but i found one called truecredit that's 40 or 50 a year. considering i would have to do this for both myself and my wife i want to make sure it's a good idea before i dive in and do it. i do want to be able to see what's on my credit report whenever i want. i want to make sure the people i'm paying are reporting when i'm paid in full and i want to see how it affects my rating and make sure my rating is going up. at the same time i've heard that every time someone checks your credit you lose a point because it shows your shopping around for loans. so i don't want my own monitoring to negatively affect what i'm trying to fix. has anyone ever tried this? what were your experiences? what do you think? edit: i looked again this morning after making this post and truecredit is 14 a month so my numbers are off. i know i saw one that offered the same thing for $50. that would be $100 for myself and my wife. not sure if its really worth it, but i do want to be able to keep track of our credit.
